THIEVES. MURDERERS. SADISTIC OFFICERS. A PLAY.
This is what made Australia
25 years ago, Our Country’s Good premiered at the Royal Court before transferring to the West End and Broadway, winning major awards on both sides of the Atlantic. This new production is by the play’s original director, Max Stafford-Clark, following his recent 5 star revival of Top Girls.
This is the true story of a ragbag cast of convicts who put on a play under the guidance of an earnest young marine officer. As the barriers between captors and captives break down, they start to discover each other both onstage and behind the scenes…

Our Country’s Good not only talks about the magic of theatre, but with this moving and entertaining production it triumphantly proves it. ”

“ A glowingly persuasive and beautifully cast revival... Warmly recommended. ”
Paul Taylor, The Independent 5/2/13
“ Timberlake Wertenbaker expertly balances humour and tragedy in a truly gripping evening that never lets up the tension and builds to a rousing and hopeful denouement. The ten-strong ensemble, almost all taking multiple roles is universally strong... Our Country's Good is a genuine modern classic and this atmospheric production is a prize that should not be missed. ”
Philip Fisher, British Theatre Guide 5/2/13
“ I love this angry and beautiful play. The production works brilliantly. The comedy is rich and laugh-out-loud. Yet there is such tenderness and anguish too ”
The Stage
“ Audiences are in for a treat... Deeply moving and lyrical and some of the best theatrical in-jokes since The Producers. Max Stafford-Clark offers a master-class of direction: clear and exciting ”
