The Jazz and Roots programme was devised by and is curated by pianist Dorian Ford.
Dorian’s aim is to showcase the excellence and diversity of jazz and related musics that London has to offer. Every Jazz and Roots night is designed to appeal to everyone – people with a wide knowledge base, and people who don’t have the same expertise but just want to have a nice evening hearing great music.
As an active player on the London scene, Dorian uses his ears and contacts to bring interesting, direct and entertaining performers to the space.
The Jazz and Roots team is committed to putting on artists from all backgrounds, of all ages, genres, vocalists and instrumentalists, and we try as much as possible to rotate the type of ensemble each week.
Dorian Ford trained at Berklee School of Music and at WAC in London. He performs regularly with his quartet and his trio, and also with the Carol Grimes bands. If you’re early for a gig at the St James coming to hear someone else, you might catch him on the piano. For details of his upcoming gigs go to www.dorianford.co.uk .
We publish as many podcasts as we can, featuring interviews with artists and excerpts from the performances. You can find these here:
