Dorian Ford on Jazz and Roots at the St James Studio
I remember meeting Zoe Rahman at the infamous WAC workshop - yet another testimony to the astonishing legacy of Ian Carr, and WAC founder and CEO Celia Greenwood. It is alarming that WAC at this time should be challenged with a large cut in funding, given the legacy of accessibility, diversity and excellence.
Zoe, who last year won Best Jazz Act in the MOBO awards, has been successfully running a band of her own in trio and quartet format for many years. She has developed both a fine body of work and a distinctive musical style. Good to see Zoe at the St James in the same season as her brother Idris (somebody with whom I’ve also had a long and fruitful musical association).
Zoe will be joined by Alec Dankworth on double bass, and Gene Calderazzo on drums.
