At the conclusion of each episode on the US Television show, Inside the Actors Studio, an adapted version of the Proust Questionnaire is posed to the interviewee.
We posed these 10 Questions to Kathryn O’reilly, now appearing as Liz in Our Country’s Good.
1. What is your favourite word?
KO: Well, being a lyrical artist and lover of words this is a difficult question. I think it changes for me. There are so many aren’t there, how can I pick one!
Talking of words – If I may plug something…My next performance poetry and music gig is Saturday 6th April 7:30pm at the Tristan Bates Theatre, I am working with some great and very talented artists at this chilled and inspiring evening. You can check out what I do here.
2. What is your least favourite word?
KO: Well I don’t wish to offend any words. They are all useful and have their many unique qualities.
3. What turns you on?
KO: Matthew! I think we need to get to know each other a bit more first…(You know where my dressing room is…)
4. What turns you off?
KO: I think one-zies. Although Jon Bradfield our fabulous Marketing Manager at Out Of Joint did parade in one the other night, and looked very cute, and said he felt very comfortable. They are like big baby grows aren’t they. I don’t think I’ll ever get one.
5. What sound do you love?
KO: I love the sound of a saxophone. And if you do too, then come down to my gig sat 6th April at the Tristan Bates Theatre 7:30pm to hear the very talented Rory Duffy on his sax!
6. What sound do you hate?
KO: The sound of hate.
7. What is your favourite curse word?
KO: Well probably more curse phrases – Elizabethan insults are great Shakespeare has some cracker curses. I like - Rank onion-eyed minnow
Also Blanch Devereaux in the golden girls has some wicked cusses. Check her out: “I will kick your uppity butt till hell won’t have it again!”
8. What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
KO: Oh tough one. If I could have one day out of my life I wouldn’t mind attempting – and I emphasis attempting – I think a role on the front line of the national health service. It would be a massive eye-opener and probably hugely grounding and life changing.
9. What profession would you not like to do?
KO: I haven’t tried that many so I don’t know. But then as someone says ‘you never know until you give it a go.’ – I think being a chef, all that ‘yes chef, no chef’, all that time pressure, heat, shouting, swearing – I’ve seen it on TV. I used to sabotage my own and others’ work in home economics class at school, I’m not very good when it comes to cooking, I would get a lot of complaints.
I think I’ll stick with this one thanks.
10. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?
KO: What do you mean IF?
The multi-talented Kathryn can also be seen performing as here alter-ego Dame K. Our Country’s Good is running at the St James Theatre 4th February till 23rdMarch. Get your tickets online here or from Box Office on 0844 264 2140
