February to April Studio shows announced

From a new play about science and discovery to a return to the golden age of the speakeasy, a one man off broadway hit to a heavenly celebration of 50s hits, take a look at some of the shows we have coming up over the next few months.

Harriet - Monday 18 January
Championed by Radio 2’s Paul O’Grady and Graham Norton, Harriet and her live band perform her new original songs in this special show. Her music has received much critical acclaim as well as chart success. This performance begins an exciting year for the young artist – an unmissable event!

A vibrant and highly individual pianist/composer, her style is deeply rooted in jazz yet it reflects her classical background, British/Bengali heritage and her very broad musical taste.

What better way is there to cheer yourself up on a chilly February Friday than to pop round to the St. James Studio for a jolly night in with Vin hosting a night of quality up and coming bands and singer-songwriters, a sprinkling of funny and a drawing competition with (rubbish) prizes thrown in?

Hanging Hooke - Tuesday 1- Thursday 3 March
Christopher Wren loved him. Isaac Newton loathed him. Robert Hooke was a fine artist, brilliant scientist, extraordinary engineer and an accomplished architect; he played a prominent part in the rebuilding of London after the Great Fire, including the construction of St Paul’s, the City churches, The Monument and some believe – the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. Lisa Jardine described him as “the man who measured London”

Gatsby in Concert - Friday 4 - Saturday 5 March
Join Meyer Wolfshiem in “Gatsby’s Speakeasy”. Wolfshiem has just received the most terrible shock of his life. ” When a man is killed I keep out. But something draws me to your world.” Watch the characters of Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby come to life as they weave their way through the famous story and unravel the mystery that is Jay Gatsby. Hollie Stephenson - Thursday 10 March
Hollie Stephenson was 12 years old when she performed her first song in front of an audience at the local pub. At 16 she recorded her first full album and tonight marks the release of that album, recorded with legendary producer Dave Stewart.

The Music of Katie and Alex - Sunday 27 March
Katie Lam (lyrics and book) and Alex Parker (music) have been writing songs and shows together since they were placed next to each other in the Class 4 seating plan when they were eight years old. Their work has become (a bit) more sophisticated since then, looking to evoke the classic feel of the musicals they grew up falling in love with.

Unearthed - Tuesday 29 March
Following the sell-out success of its 2015 production, Folio Theatre’s five star production of Unearthed is back by popular demand. Directed by Kim Pearce (The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time) and starring Lizzie Stables (The Inbetweeners) comedy-drama Unearthed tells the heart warming story of estranged siblings who, once torn apart by caring for their father in his illness, are brought back together through a series of hilarious tasks left for them in his will.
