David Mills: The Gospel Truth
simple truths, simply spoken
2011 Hackney Empire New Act of the Year, David Mills comes to the St James Theatre for one night only with his new show: The Gospel Truth.
The stylish raconteur has built quite a reputation with his sharp and catty commentary covering everything from presidential hairstyles to London street markets; gay ‘rainbow warriors’ to West End restaurants; ‘black power’ to the Paralympics.
Whatever the topic, Mills’ signature take goes down like an exceedingly dry martini – with a stinging aftertaste. His solo show at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival David Mills is Smart Casual was an undeniable cult hit earning 4-star reviews and packed houses.
In The Gospel Truth, Mills is once again possessed by the spirit. Expect droll and hilarious stand-up mixed with inspirational ranting and speaking in tongues. A bit of fire and brimstone to mixed with sharp-tongued cocktail swagger. An evening of caustic comedy delivered in conversational intimacy. With the occasional gospel medley.
‘Mills addictive persona is both your best friend and worst enemy, you want to share some classy cocktail with him but fear he’d smash the glass and slice a jugular.’ ScotsGay
‘Caustic, controversial and politically incorrect.’ Thisiscabaret.com
‘A gifted, bravura performer. His ruthless, cynical bitchiness is hysterically funny.’ SF Bay Guardian
‘David Mills is headed for the big time. Most definitely one to watch.’ Time Out
