Frank Griffith’s The Polo Sticks

5 April 2013
Part of St James Studio Jazz and Roots Fridays

Swing into spring with the Polo Sticks, an unsual lineup of three clarinets aboard a three rhythm craft. Sort of a Benny’s Bird’s Nest branching off onto as many limbs as possible. (Tree or four at least).

You’ll hear Duke, Goodman and Parker, as well a few more contemporary themes with nods to the tradition by the group’s leader, Frank Griffith, an American clarinetist who has been resident in London since 1996.

The group’s name incorporates USA clarinetist, Danny Polo, who resided and recorded in London in the late 1930s.

A REAL ARTY SHOW!
