The Political and the Personal
Our views inform the characters we write, how and where we live and the conclusions we draw in our day-to-day experience.
As new theatre’s influence on public opinion grows, this workshop looks at how we integrate political views, both small and large, into the writing of our new plays.
We’ll look at the role of humour, irony and the surreal as well as the naturalistic. How we can use these elements in our writing to expose the ‘window to the soul’ of what truly drives some of the most interesting characters for the stage?
Through a series of writing exercises, technique talk and scene sharing, tutor Phil Setren (London New Play Festival) leads this popular monthly workshop.
All levels are encouraged. Just bring pen and paper and a healthy imagination!

“Thanks for a wonderful workshop. I was blown away by it’s scope. The writing exercises were inspiring and it was fun to hear everyone’s work. The enthusiasm of the other participants, the atmosphere of the studio and Phil’s generosity as an instructor all made for an exceptional day.”- Corinne Lemaitre, February 2014 participant
