Part of St. James Studio Classical Music Series
In the first of two concerts, London-based Russian virtuoso pianist, Sergei Podobedov, makes his first appearance at The Studio at St. James Theatre with a programme including works by Chopin and Prokofiev, plus the First Piano Sonata, Op. 14, by Welsh composer David Braid.
Sergei gave the World Premiere of this dazzling and hauntingly beautiful new work at the Southbank’s Purcell Room last summer and it is quickly becoming a favourite among audiences.
On July 21st Sergei will return to The Studio with composer/guitarist David Braid for ‘Sergei Podobedov and David Braid in concert’ to perform together their new arrangements of the organ music of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and a new work by Braid.
“[Podobedov's] Chopin is beautifully proportioned, rubato is sensitively handled, and the four selections come up fresh and distinguished when compared with the scads of recording available… all will wish there were more from this outstanding pianist.” Alan Becker, American Record Guide
“I know Sergei Podobedov as a magnificent pianist who possesses outstanding virtuosic skills combined with true musicality and a refined sense of style.” Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Conductor
“With maximum enthusiasm, I laud Sergei Podobedov’s exhilarating pianism. Possessor of a nonpareil technique…he communicates the iridescent colors of the classical and romantic literature with keen perception of stylistic nuances.” Robert Stevenson, The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians
