Sergei Podobedov and David Braid in concert, 4pm

21 July 2013
Part of St. James Studio Classical Music Series

London-based Russian virtuoso pianist, Sergei Podobedov, is joined by Welsh composer/guitarist, David Braid, on his return to The Studio at St. James Theatre. Together they will present a brand-new programme, including the World Premiere of their arrangement of 16th Century Dutch composer of the organ music of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, for piano and semi-acoustic guitar, together with the World Premiere of Braid’s Sonata, Op. 19, for guitar and piano.

“[Podobedov’s] Chopin is beautifully proportioned, rubato is sensitively handled, and the four selections come up fresh and distinguished when compared with the scads of recording available… all will wish there were more from this outstanding pianist.” Alan Becker, American Record Guide
“I know Sergei Podobedov as a magnificent pianist who possesses outstanding virtuosic skills combined with true musicality and a refined sense of style.” Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Conductor
‘[David Braid’s] Morning’. Integration of voice with string quartet beautifully done – particularly first entrance. Writing for instruments is solid and sounds very good to me. Very honest stuff” Steve Reich
